Science Roundtable on Carbon Capture and Storage

We are academics, scientists, and engineers sharing an independent, evidence-based assessment of carbon capture and storage.

Guiding Principles

Evidence-Based Science. Decisions about carbon capture and storage and the associated risks should be based on the best available science and engineering.

Environmental Justice. Carbon capture and storage projects should not move forward until the federal government has conducted a systematic review of the risks, engaged in accountable communications with communities on the front lines of fossil fuel production (as recommended by the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council), and established a regulatory framework to protect those communities.

Transparency and Accountability. Carbon capture and storage subsidies should not exist, but as long as they do, there must be transparency about where carbon dioxide is injected, how much is injected, who is doing it, what subsidies they receive, and whether the gas is effectively stored. This information currently is not public.
